Natural Reserve Lake of Burano

Lake of Burano is a protected area, it is the first WWF Oasis, located near Capalbio, important habitat of winter migration for many species of bird.

The Reserve has 410 hectares of which 140 occupied by the lake. An enchanting coastal lagoon surrounded by sand dunes and Mediterranean scrub. In this area we find all the natural environments typical of the Maremma. Visits to the Reserve are organized by WWF guides, there is a nature trail with various observation points. There are also educational nature trails, a butterfly garden, an observatory for night vision and a visit center The “guardian” of the lake is the old Tower of Buranaccio, a fortification made at the time of the Stato dei Presidi (mid-sixteenth century).
